My Mom "Grammy" and Megan went together for an afternoon of pampering. They had a manicure and pedicure. We are thinking to make this a 3 generation affair on March 1st.

One note though, it was NOT actually stated that Danny Gokey was the TOP male vote getter - but I really believe that he was superior to the other men last night. Just my opinion.

Well, it has been a busy, busy day. After crossing guard duty, I went grocery shopping. We needed everything. When I cam home, The Fat Brothers were waiting on me for breakfast.
Afternoon crossing guard duty was uneventful, but I can tell the weather is getting more pleasant because tons of kids walked home today. Some of the parents who came to school I haven't see in a couple of months.
I dropped Ryan at the house and Megan and I went to Petsmart for dog food. Jason called about that time, needing a ride home from the highschool. We got here about 4:05 and he had to be back at the field house no later that 5:15 to ride the bus to tonight's baseball game. In that hour I cooked grilled cheese sandwiches, warmed left over pizza and did some dishes.
Mike came by the house about 5:20 to get the twins and head to the baseball game. I finished the dishes and then headed to bell choir rehearsal. We had a really good rehearsal and I can't wait to ring some of the songs.
Tonight was American Idol - but but the time Mike and the kids got home it was after 9:00. The kids needed to shower, and Megan wanted me to braid her hair so it would be wavy tomorrow. We didn't even start watching American Idol until after 10:00.

Not much to blog today. Ryan and Megan got home from school (and I got home from crossing guard duty) about 3:20. They both did their homework. Ryan had soccer practice from 5:30 to 6:30. Jason had baseball practice from 3:45 to 6:15 and Megan had gymnastics from 7:00 until 8:00.
I hate eating fast food, but can't seem to come up with a meal that can work for all the different schedules.
Tomorrow will be crazy too. Jason has an AWAY ballgame at Birdville. At 6:30. The same exact time as handbell choir.
I am thinking we are having a super early dinner. Then everyone will be starving at 9:00 p.m. when they should be getting ready to go to bed.
Mike does not like to eat breakfast for dinner. The kids and I love it.
Bah humbug.
Today I got to have lunch with my dear friend Michelle. She invited me to a new restaurant called Baja Grill. It was very good. I stuck to my usual 'test' of a new mexican restaurant and ordered the enchilada plate. It was very tasty. Their salsa was good too, which is another indicator I use to judge by. Michelle ordered us a cup of queso to share, and I liked it too. Michelle had the brisket tacos which looked fabulous with the black beans on her plate. Thanks for the treat Michelle. I enjoyed our chatting and time catching up! Let's do it again soon!
Ran a few errands and paid a few bills. Did my crossing guard duty this afternoon.
Oh!! I got some Valentines candy from 2 of my kids that cross every day. What an unexpected treat!
I bit later this afternoon - I juggled Megan and Ryan over to my friend Candice's house following an SOS call from my step-Dad. My mom had a diabetic emergency and we all rushed to the ER. She is home now and will followup with her physicians Monday. She is doing okay though or I am sure they wouldn't have let her go home. THANK YOU CANDICE FOR BAILING ME OUT AND TAKING THE TWINS!
Jason had his first freshman baseball game yesterday. It was a scrimmage against another high school. It wasn't officially scored - but Mike says we had alot of runs to their not-so-many runs. Jason looked sharp in his uniform and new cleats.
He has a double header tomorrow in Weatherford.
Off to tuck a sweet little girl in bed.
This was my favorite show. It was organized and just plowed through the results without all that skipping around.
The show opened at the judges mansion. Judges reviewed the tapes from auditions and Hollywood week, and now they are going to have the contestants come room to meet with them one on one and give them the news as to whether they have made the Top 36 or not. In a few instances, two singers may be called and asked to "sing for their lives".
7:00 a.m. the 54 contestants have gathered in a holding room. As they are called, they will walk down to the judges room.
I was going to list all 54 - but I think I will just list the men and women who made it through.

Monday brought the news that Jason made the Freshman baseball team at his high school! We are so proud of him. I promise to post pictures after the first game - which should be a scrimmage on Thursday.
Tuesday - impending severe weather had everyone on edge this evening. I went on to handbell choir practice from 6:30 until 8:00. It was a great rehearsal. We rehearsed Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring for church on Sunday. We also sight read Days of Elijah. It it challenging, but already, I am exicted to ring this one. This is a new piece to our choir.
I had not been home very long when the line of severe storms including tornado watches romped northwest over north Texas stretching from Waco to McKinney. We did not have much concern here at home. Briefly, it looked like we might get hit hard - but really - it was nothing. The kids got to stay up a little late though just in case.
It is always interesting that when the news is predicting the worst - one of my kids will always dramatically ask if we are going to die. We always tell them not to be concerned unless they see Mike and I cleaning out the large closet under the staircase. THEN they can be worried. The only time we have ever actually taken cover was in March of 2000 when the tornado hit downtown Fort Worth. I have pictures from that somewhere.
I have been under the weather - so to speak. My parents are moving and I spent Sunday afternoon emptying their attic for them. Far too much dust and insulation particles. A cousin recommended honey/apple cider vinegar/lemon juice for my scratchy throat and it really worked. Now, if only I could unclog my head. I can't get much air in through my nose. So pitiful.
We watched tonights American Idol. I think they probably ended this show with 48 hopefuls including Alexis, Joan, Casey Carlson, Kai Kolama, Arianna, Jasmine, Stephen Fowler, Michael Sarver, Nick Gentle, Anoop, Scot, Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Jackie Tohn, Matt and Tatianna.
One person who did NOT advance was Jason Castro's brother Michael.
Tomorrow's episode will reveal the Final 36 contestants.
I am off to bed. Hopefully this allergic reaction or cold will go away while I sleep.

I can't believe I never wrote about this. I was daydreaming earlier at baseball this morning, or maybe it was soccer this afternoon. So, I will have to tell about our day of travel now.
We had an invitation from my Dad and Kara to visit them in Sequim, Washington. Jason actually got to go on to Washington about a week early. He flew out by himself! His photographs of his visit with his grandparents is here.
On Tuesday, July 29, 2008 we got up about 4:30 in the morning to start our adventure. Our friend Craig came over about 7:00 a.m. to give us a ride to the airport. Essentually, the ride to the airport was uneventful except for some of the morning rush hour traffic. We got there with 4 people, 4 suitcases (3 that roll and 1 that doesn't. That will be important later), 2 backpacks, a purse, Mike's Blackberry & dangling headphones, my cell phone and a small duffel which had our quart bag of 3 oz liquids, Dramamine, tylenol, Airborne, granola bars and oh yeah - bottles of water. That is what an inexperienced traveller does - takes bottled water BEFORE the security check. Duh!
We get in line for security and other than the water (confiscated) and trying to take off 4 pair of shoes and get everything (we carried on our luggage, did not check it) on the conveyor belt - then get to the other side and collect everything and get shoes back on all while trying not to hold up the process for other travellers. But, we all passed through without incident. We get to the gate and check in for the first of two flights for the day. Ryan has developed a headache and I walked every gift shop looking for childrens pain relievers - but can only find infant or adult. Ryan learned to swallow a pill that morning.
The flight to LAX was about 3 hours. We got to our gate and had about an hour and a half to make our connecting flight. In another terminal. Each of our kids expected to wear their backpack and pull their rolling suitcase. I had my rolling suitcase, my purse and the extra small duffel, Mike had his CARRY suitcase which is exactly the size of the carry-on regulation. We leave the gate from which we arrived and begin to walk. We are looking for signs to catch a shuttle to Terminal #1. We see a sign that directs us to go down a flight of stairs. We go down the first flight and across a landing to the second flight and head down, only when we get there - we can't find a sign to the shuttle anywhere. So. we hike back upstairs. Four people, 4 suitcases, etc. We arrive at the top and there is that sign....pointing back down stairs. Ugh. We get to the landing and I told everyone to stop so we could figure this mystery out. As we stand there perplexed, I notice an unmarked opening in the wall. I walk over there and see an airline employee and ask where the place to catch the shuttle is. "Right here." says she. A big sigh of relief.
We catch the shuttle and tell the driver we need terminal one. He says he will take us half way there, and that we then de-board and stand in line to catch ANOTHER shuttle to go the rest of the way. What the heck? By this time, a set screw on the handle of Ryan's rolling suitcase has come off and is lost. He can no longer roll his own suitcase - so Mike has to carry his own suitcase which is horizontal - but he also has to carry Ryan's which is vertical.
Eventually, we make it to terminal one and follow the signs to a big gate area. We find a row of seats with four spots together and park all of our junk. We took turns getting to the restrooms and getting more bottled water. We are sitting in this long row of seats with people to our right and our left. The twins are a bit restless and we admonished them to not bounce around in their seats as the seats were all connected and others might find it bothersome to be wiggled like that. We eat some granola bars and watched with fascination at the interesting people around us. One older lady - 55 or 60 - walked by with electric blue hair. Quite a sight. As we sit there, our seats begin to rock. I quickly turn to scold the kids but they are sitting still and playing their Nintendos. What? I think to myself: I wonder if this is an earthquake? I get Mike's attention and voice my question. Mike says "Naw! That isn't an earthquake!" He totally dismisses the idea. I am looking around this large room and I don't see any panicked or upset people. One group that was standing was rather animated, but I didn't register any alarm in their manner.
Soon, our flight is called, and we lug all our stuff to the gate and we board. I am leading the way with the four flight boarding passes, the two kids are following me and Mike is bringing up the rear. The flight attendant greets me and she says "So, how did you like our earthquake this afternoon?" To which I respond righteously "Ah, ha !!! I TOLD my husband that was an earthquake and he didn't believe me!" Served Mike right that she whacked him on the shoulder when he walked past. She did actually strike him on the shoulder! We later found out the earthquake was a 5.4 on the Richtor scale and was centered about 60 miles away in Chino.
We arrive at SEATAC about 2 1/2 hours later. Now, we know we have to catch a city bus down to Pioneer Square where we planned to meet my step-Sister Julia and her family for a meal at Ivar's Famous Seafood Restaurant. We lug our stuff through the airport and out onto the sidewalk where we do not see any signs for the city bus. I park the kids and Mike outside, and go inside to the baggage area where a worker offers to help us. I ask him where we catch the city bus, and he energetically replies while pointing off in the distance "Do you see that yellow sign waaayyyyy down there? That is the bus stop and by the way that is your bus!" CRAP.
I rush outside and tell Mike and the kids to run for it. Picture this: Mike highstepping it with his 6'1" body and 36" inseam with his and Ryan's suitcases, the two kids and myself RUNNING down the sidewalk as fast as we possibly can....and my cell phone starts to ring! Well, I left my Mom and step-Dad Randy back in Texas and Randy was having surgery that day. That is another story - but I really wanted/needed to answer that phone call! I needed to know that the procedure had gone well, so I answer my phone while running for the d*mn bus. Mom immediately realizes I am out of breath and wants to know what is wrong and I say "It is fine - we are running for a bus, but I can listen.....go ahead.....how is Dad doing?" The procedure went well and I agreed to call her a bit later.
Meanwhile, I realize that there is a 5th person running alongside us - only this guy seems to be native to the area and knows about catching the bus. He is running along yelling for the bus to wait! It does, and all six of us board. Whooo!!!
The Seattle bus driver was so great to us. We explained where we wanted to go and she tipped us off to the better stop for us to get off at. We followed her instructions and they were perfect. We hiked through the Pioneer Square area lugging our stuff and ended up right at the door to Ivar's. Interestingly, it began to rain the minute we stepped under the awning.
At this point, we had also been in contact with Julia and her family, and they joined us shortly. We enjoyed some terrific clam chowder and then Ivar's Famous Fish and Chips. We had also been in contact with my Dad and Kara who were going to pick us up on the other side of the Puget Sound. To get there, we took a ride on a Washington State Ferry to Bainbridge Island.
Kara and Jason met us on the other side with a station wagon. Julia, Paul and the girls had rented a car that they drove onto the ferry, so they just drove off the ferry and headed to Sequim. We got there and had a terrific visit with family. Oh - and total travel time for the day was roughly 13 hours on cars, airplanes x2, our own feet, a bus, a ferry and another car.
I don't have anything big or special to write about today. No pictures I am anxious to share. Thursday night television has three of my favorite shows. ER, which of course, is in its' final season. Number 15. I can't believe I have been watching ER as long as Jason has been alive. That is crazy! I loved ER from the first episode of Season 1. I am sorry to see it end, but it has been nice to watch the current cast help to wrap up loose ends. It has been nice to see some flashbacks to past characters, especially Dr. Mark Greene. This week, Dr. David Morgenstern made a visit. And who could forget the original desk clerk Jerry?
My other two favorite shows are Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. This week, they did a crossover episode that I thoroughly enjoyed. And, the episode will continue next week! The teaser at the end of the episode looks really, really good. I don't want to post any spoilers here, so I won't elaborate on the details. Private Practice brought in an actor to play Archer - Addison's brother. The actor is Grant Show who I first remember in Melrose Place many years ago. He is still very handsome. I don't think he has aged one iota.

Tonight promises drama! 107 contestants are participating in the group round. They chose their own groups. A few people didn't connect with groups until 10 or 11 at night. By 11:15 most groups were in full swing and happy with their choices.
Elsewhere - there is much drama, many tears, lots of bickering and fighting. Tatiana Del Toro couldn't get along with her group and ditched them for another group. When that group also wasn't to her satisfaction - she went back to her original group. The 2nd choice group wasn't too happy with her.
Katrina a.k.a. bikini girl goes to bed and leaves her group still trying to work out details. In the morning - they go to her room to get her and she just wants to sleep. She actually does show up later - but no one is overjoyed to see her. NOTE: Katrina was NOT passed to the next round.
David Osmond also failed to advance.
