Shhh! It is a secret !!!
This coming Tuesday is the day the 3rd grade and 9th grades (grades applicable to my kids) take the TAKs test. That is the Texas Assessment of Knowledge test that the state requires. Of course - at the 9th grade level - Jason is too cool for school to get a bag like this. LOL.
The 3rd grade teachers asked the parents to put some goodies into a bag for the kids to open at school Monday afternoon.
It contains:
roll of Smarties - to reflect the knowledge they have gained
eraser - for when the check their work
pencil -to record their knowledge
pencil grip - to get a grip on the test
hugs/kissed - to encourage them
stickers - to remind them to stick to the task
We could also include a new book to read silently when they get done, a healthy snack, and notes of encouragement from us and relatives too. They each have a note from Mike & I, their Grammy & Poppy, Grandma and Mamaw & Papaw.
I decorated the bags. I think they turned out pretty cute!

Way Cool! And neat that the grandparents participated too.
Can I tell a TAKS test story? When my firstborn was in junior high, they sent the results home, and I hauled it right back to school asking about it...as it was not even for my child. Big mistake. I thought the counselor was gonna faint that my eyes had seen another kid's report. He found my son's, and helped me read it, and said the firstborn had done really well.
By high school, those that passed (and did not have to take it anymore) got the day off. Do they still do that?
As far as I know - there are no exemptions from taking the tests. However - My son just started high school - so I don't know. He is taking the reading TAKs test tomorrow. He has always gotten commended scores in reading in the past.
