Megan & Ryan - 3rd grade Geometry Projects
Ryan and Megan recently were given projects by of their teachers both their teachers. The Third grade has been studying 3-dimensional shapes in math. The teachers wanted the kids to use their knowledge to build a 3-D model. They could create anything they wanted - but could use ONLY 3-Dimensional shapes.
They were allowed to use many different things from around the house for their models. The model could be an animal, person, machine, building, etc. The sky was the limit. Trash was treasure! Thank you to our friends and family who donated items from their homes!
There was a catch though! They had to use at least ONE of each of the required shapes - they could use it multiple times - but had to use it at least once. The required shapes were:
- Cube
- Sphere
- Rectangular prism
- Cylinder
- Cone
- Square pyramid
Each shape had to be labeled correctly, neatness counted, creativity was part of the grade, correct spelling, and the projects had to be decorated in some way.
Ryan made a "Bird Man" and Megan made a "Cat" which she named Zach.
Ryan's project is currently in a display case at the school. Both Ryan and Megan got a grade of 100 on their projects! Here they are:

Those "parent" projects get more trying as the kids advance, you know. But by the time our third son did his 7th grade wild flower project, we had the drill down. We knew exactly where to find the indian blankets, coreopsis, paintbrush, etc.
(Don't get me started on the bug project.)
Hey Bob!
The fact that they are twins and have the same project at the same time makes me crazy sometimes. Thank goodness my hubby jumped in and helped out!
Amen about getting to do the same project more than once....AND...doing them differently! LOL Diorama's...ugh...
These are fantastic. You guys (all 4 of you) did great!
Wow!! They did a great job! They deserve 100s!!!
Cool project and cute solutions!
Those turned out great. I can only imagine when my three get to third grade what their projects will be like than.
Jamie,
Sorry to comment out-of-context here, but I found a picture of your son from the Ultracentric race - he's holding up a sign, so I think it's him anyway! You can see the thumbnail on this page...
