Ice Day Aftermath

So, Tuesday the 27th I wrote about an impending ice storm hitting north Texas. In fact, we did have freezing rain followed by sleet on top of that. The sleet actually kept things from being worse than they were: tons of wrecks and ER visits. None were us, fortunately.

School was actually cancelled in our district. It doesn't happen very often and the kids were super excited. Megan and Ryan ventured outside for about 1 1/2 hours. They hung out with some of the neighbors. I managed to get a shot of 3 of them:

Megan, Kelly and Ryan

Interestingly, we had a flock of seagulls who were seemingly lost. They did enjoy a few crumbs of bread we were trying to feed the Fat Brothers with. It was very difficult to get a good photo of the seagulls, but the next two shots are my attempts. I missed the one that landed in the yard to eat some bread.

This view is looking east. It is really hard to tell how pretty the ice was glistening off the grass and the trees. There are two shots looking east.

This is the shrubs in the front of the house. It is pretty easy to see the ice coating on the leaves.

Looking across the pond. Look at the top of the Bradford Pear tree. It looks like tiny Christmas lights at the tip top. That is the ice. The grass just has a hazy appearance, but that is the ice coating it.

Today is now Friday. Yesterday the temperatures reached about 48 degrees. This morning it was about 34 degrees when we woke up. There was STILL unmelted ice on our driveway at 9:30 this morning. Take a look:

As of about 6:30 tonight, the last of the ice had finally melted. The house faces North and the sun just doesn't reach all of the driveway.

Finally, the kids reported to me yesterday after school that the Fat Brothers has been up begging for bread when the kids were out playing. It is my understanding that the ducks did a bit of slippling and sliding on the icy driveway too. It was reported that one of them slid on his bum.

In that last picture it looks like the lead duck is getting goosed.

Bob - I am a goober - I had just written this post, and I had already composed tomorrows post. I was thinking of today's comment near that picture about the duck sliding on his bum - but I was thinking of tomorrows picture that you haven't seen yet.

Our driveway also faces north, so the ice didn't melt for two days either. On Thurs. I had to scrape all that ice off my car and pour water over the door to open it. Fun, fun!!
